Ken Zeger's short biography

Kenneth Zeger was born in Boston. He received both S.B. and S.M. degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT in 1984, and both an M.A. degree in mathematics and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1989 and 1990, respectively. He is presently a full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California at San Diego. He received an NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1991. He served as Associate Editor At-Large for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory 1995-1998, served as a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society 1998-2000, 2005-2007, and 2008-2010, and became an IEEE Fellow in 2000. He has experience in the areas of speech and audio coding, image and video coding, digital communications, networks, protocols, cell phones, telephony, and electronic hardware devices.
